Performance


Julian has performed in Europe (Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Lithuania, Poland, Switzerland and former Yugoslavia), the Middle East (Israel and Lebanon), South Africa and throughout the UK, including recitals in the Wigmore Hall, the Purcell Room and the Church of St Martin-in-the-Fields.
More recent two-piano work with pianist Peter Noke has featured performances across the UK (including several recitals at the CBSO Centre), and in Hong Kong and China. Besides playing standard classics, Julian’s work has included first performances of contemporary music and cross-over work into jazz and progressive rock.

Lecturing


As a university staff member, Julian lectured on many musical topics ranging from classical piano music to jazz and rock & roll (and much in between). He has given lectures, lecture recitals and presentations for organisations such as ABRSM and EPTA as well as for music appreciation courses and one-off events.
He has delivered papers at musicological conferences including for Midlands Musicological Forum, Performance Studies Network, Doctors in Performance, European Platform for Artistic Research into Music and Hands-On Research Symposium.
His work in the above areas has taken him to Indonesia, Japan, Lithuania, Malaysia, New Zealand, Norway, Romania, Singapore, Taiwan, The Philippines and Turkey as well as to many places in the UK.
